Another Day at placement, another day of canceled lessons and sitting around like an utter lemon. Which is why there’s a new blog post… I have a lot of time on my hands, which, I feel, could be more productively spent writing my final essay or skiving off in the pub.

Anyways, I thought, seeing as everyone else is weighing in and inflicting their opinion on the world RE: The General Election, then I would jump on the bandwagon too. I don’t mean I’m going to go all right-wing, left-wing or any other wing, I’m just going to have a rant about the bitching that everyone is doing about it. Drum roll for the most boring blog entry ever.
My first pet peeve is everyone voicing their opinions on Facebook. It’s not that I object to the opinions or think that they are wrong in any way - that’s the beauty of personal opinion – you are always right. Well at least in your mind you are. No it’s the morons who use their status updates to ‘threaten’ fellow Facebook users. One delightful person I came across actually stated that ‘If anyone votes (Whatever party it was) they’re no f***ing friend of mine and you will be deleted’. This, although not the best threat by a long stretch, is the reason alone that people like this should not be allowed to vote. Why would anyone be so a petty about which way an individual votes? It’s tragic. I have a number of friends who are voting Labour, others going Tory and some Lib Dem – If I don’t agree with their vote it doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be their friend anymore. I’m not a child. Frankly I couldn’t care less how they want to vote – they’re my friend regardless of their political persuasion! And the people who get on their political high horse like said person are usually those who are first time voters who use Thatcherism as their main argument for such petty and empty threats. Shut up – you aren’t old enough to remember any of it – come up with an original argument and I’d have a little more respect for the rubbish that comes out of your mouth.
2. Polling Station Riots – The most annoying inputs I’ve come across on this issue tends to be people bitching that people involved in these riots should have got there earlier. Which I’m sure is the case for some but the fact is a number of polling stations weren’t prepared for the number of voters – one in Birmingham only had 4 booths! I’m no mathematician but even I can see that that was never going to go down well. And why on earth is it all done in the one day?! Ok postal voting does go on but for many it’s easier to go to a polling station – I think it’s a bit optimistic that things would have gone smoothly when the majority of voters would be stuck at work during the quiet times and it would be rammed come 10pm. I think Just-Call-Me-Dave Cameron has the right idea that the voting system needs a revamp.
I admit that this blog comes off the back of pretty much ignoring everything political on the TV and in the papers ’cause frankly it all bores me to tears. It always has – even at school and Uni – I just switch off because the people running and involved in the campaigns tend to be massive douche bags and have no concept of reality and what really can be done. I did, however, read the party manifestos. But whoever is finally chosen let’s not be surprised that they don’t follow through or keep their promises. Chances are they’re going to do a worse job than the last lot – afterall it tends to be a tradition at No 10.
Rant over.
